Investigating EFL students’ self-directed learning: Evidence from a state university during Covid-19 pandemic

Self-Directed Learning (SDL) occupies a strong position in language education many countries. Yet, little evidence has been given on this approach among English majors the setting of Vietnam. The current cross-sectional study, therefore, is an effort to fill up gap by exploring students’ levels self-directedness learning and their correlation with academic performance at state university. study employed Self-Rating Scale (SRSSDL) five domains consisting 60 items developed Williamson (2007) get responses from 90 English-majored students 04 cohorts. data were then analyzed through SPSS, using Independent-sample T-test One-way ANOVA. Results evidenced that (1) Investigated found be moderate high SDL, (2) No difference SDL scores was between male female students, (3) considerable different years same program, (4) There direct level performance. Based findings, recommendations are well elaborated as references for teachers who considering leveraging learning. hopefully contributes existing literature self-directed education.
